With 2013 here, SO! What? SOcial has compiled a list of predictions for the New Year 2013. In 2012 we saw rapid developments with social media and we predict there will be much more where that came from this year.
With an estimated $4.2 billion spent in 2012 on advertising with social media, its already big business. We predict that 2013 will see a further rise on money spent on advertising as companies move away from traditional forms of advertising to the internet like display ads and banners. With social media ads providing better ROI there will be a major shift in the coming year.
Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram visual social media platforms had a huge rise in the number of people using them in 2012 which will continue rapid growth in 2013. We expect to see more companies producing more visual content in 2013 and beyond since visual content is easy to share, cheap to produce, and simple to optimize for various platforms including mobile.
Social media, smartphones and tablets go hand in hand and will keep rising exponentially in 2013. There will be a change in the type of content that is created for social media users using their mobile phones and the way in which it is optimized for various mobile platforms. We can say goodbye to heavy content and long text stories and posts and say hello to shorter articles with focus on visuals like videos, images and infographics.
2013 looks like it will be another big year in the world of social media!
